BASIC SKIN TYPES
Normal-to-balanced skin is the ideal type.
It’s neither oily nor dry, which means that
it’s performing all the duties of healthy
skin and functioning as it should. It looks
radiant and supple.
Oily skin is characterized by overactive
sebaceous glands and large, visible
pores. It tends to be greasy and can be
accompanied by acne. Oily skin isn’t
usually sensitive.
Dry skin lacks natural oil and moisture.
In appearance, it can be dry, scaly, and
wrinkled, with small pores. Dry skin is
easily irritated. Superficially dry skin can
be caused by the environment. The wind,
the sun, and various pollutants can _make
any skin type appear dry, as can skin
conditions such as eczema, psoriasis,
and dermatitis.
Combination skin is a mix of the above
types, each of which can occur on a
different part of the face. The forehead,
nose, and chin may be oily or balanced,
while the cheeks and the area around
the eyes may be dry. Most people have
this type of skin.
Sensitive skin is easily irritated by
everything from the environment to
body-care products and cosmetics.
It may itch or burn and be red or rashy in
appearance. It’s also prone to broken
capillaries and sunburn.
