Ghee- the ayurvedic superfood!

The traditional method of making ghee is by using earthen pots and churners especially wooden churners. They ensure the butter is pure and no impurity or chemicals were used in the process.

Ghee helps with improving the memory, and lubricating connective tissue. It also used for relieving constipation.

The process of making ghee is rather simple. Place a pound of butter on slow flame in a deep saucepan. Let the butter melt and then simmer. Milk solids start to seperate creating a foam like layer on the top. Continue to cook on low flame till the butter becomes golden. At this point switch the flame off and move the sauce pan to the a cooler burner or surface on the stove away from the burner it was cooking on.

Cool for about 5-7 minutes and strain into a glass jar. Ghee is ready when set.
This ghee can be stored in air tight containers for upto 6 months or more.

Additons-
1. Now here you can add a pink of salt and stir it to get grainy texture. Some people add 1-2 clove buds as well while boiling.
2. Add turmeric powder to the ghee for added benefits.

This ghee can be used on the body to massage, cracked lips, hands etc for healing benefits especially in winter.
